Tell us about yourself!

Hi, my name is Jon and I’m 23 years old. My entire life, I’ve loved all things tech. From being in front of a computer my entire childhood, to studying IT in college, I’ve been obsessed with learning all I can about modern technology. Aside from spending my free time at my computer, I’ve always made my best effort to build a career in the tech industry. I have worked in jobs like retail technical sales, as a field technician, and now as a project coordinator.

How did you get involved with Vog?

I started with Vog when a friend familiar with the company told me about a potential opening for a role as a project coordinator. I had never worked in custom software development before, and at the time I was working as a telecom field technician, so I did not know what to expect or how to prepare. I nervously approached the interview and after it went well I never looked back.

What does a day as a project coordinator look like?

A day as a project coordinator, in my experience, looks like a little bit of everything.. Being a project coordinator means working very closely with the projects I’m on–everything from building out complex maps to house every piece of logic that needs to be accounted for, to taking incredibly detailed notes on meetings that can be referenced weeks, or even months afterwards and still adequately capture a conversation and any decisions made. It’s my job to ensure that conversations, rules, and information is captured efficiently and effectively, and be able to provide that information to the developers when they require it.

How would you describe Vog?

I would describe Vog as a place of work where people were excited to start their day. In other jobs I’ve had, I often had coworkers that saw the day of work ahead of them as purely a responsibility– a monotonous routine. One of the first things I noticed at Vog was that every day brought new and unique challenges or problems that had to be solved, and no one was dragging their feet in solving them. The environment is just very supportive and energetic.

What is your favorite part of working for Vog?

My favourite part about working at Vog in my time so far is definitely seeing and being a part of an idea coming to fruition. I’ve never had a more fulfilling moment in any job I’ve ever worked then the first time I could go into a web browser, type in a URL, and seeing something that I was a part of– seeing the final product and knowing I had an impact on it. Aside from that, definitely my coworkers. I have built great relationships with the people at Vog.

What would you tell someone who wants to enter the tech industry?

To someone who wants to enter the tech industry, I would say if it’s something you’re passionate about, don’t settle. There are lots of people alive that love technology but don’t want to put the effort in to break into the industry. If you love technology and are willing to put in the work to constantly learn more and improve your skill set, then there will be a place where you’re valued. Put a real effort into invaluable tools like learning how to learn, how to methodically approach a problem and prepare solutions, and  then don’t settle for a position until you are where you’d like to be.

What has been your biggest point of growth?

My biggest point of growth with Vog has definitely been confidence in my role. In past positions I’ve struggled with identifying problems and voicing solutions, or providing my input. In the time I’ve worked at Vog I’ve found myself actively improving every day at understanding where I fit into the team and the solutions I can bring to the table, which has improved my confidence and allowed me to be a better project coordinator.
